Villainous Tour & Rum Sampling – Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the Villainous Tour & Rum Sampling?

A: Step into the dark and mysterious world of York’s most infamous villains as you enjoy a guided tasting of our signature rums. This 30-minute experience includes:

  • A guided tour through York’s villainous past.
  • Six rum samples inspired by historical mischief-makers.
  • The Villain’s Oath, where you pledge allegiance and receive your Contract of Villainy.

Q: I am driving / I don’t drink – do I have to sample the rum?

A: Not at all! If you prefer, we can offer alcohol-free alternatives or swap your samples for gin—just let us know when you arrive.

Q: I don’t like neat spirits – can I have a mixer?

A: Absolutely We do have softies! We offer mixers such as cola, ginger beer, or lemonade—just let us know your preference when you arrive.

Q: How long does the experience last?

A: The Villainous Tour & Rum Sampling lasts 30 minutes. Please arrive 5 minutes before your scheduled start time.

Q: Are children allowed on the tour?

A: This is an Over 18s Only experience. However, you are welcome to bring one child per adult, but due to space restrictions, we ask that you limit it to one child per paying adult.

Q: Are dogs allowed?

A: Yes! Well-behaved dogs are welcome to join you in the shop and during the tour. In fact, we love our canine visitors so much that we have a Wall of Villainous hounds—so be sure to snap a photo!

Q: Will I need ID?

A: Yes! We operate a strict Challenge 25 policy—if you look under 25, please bring ID, as we cannot serve alcohol without it.

Q: Can I book for a large group, stag, or hen party?

A: We do not accept stag/hen parties or large groups on public tours. However, we do offer private tours—please email us at INFO@VILLAINSRUM.COM to discuss your options.

Q: Can I book a private tour?

A: Yes! We offer private tours for groups of up to 20 people. To book or inquire, contact us at INFO@VILLAINSRUM.COM

Q: What is your refund policy?

A: We understand that plans can change. You can:

  • Cancel for a full refund up to 24 hours before your booking.
  • Exchange your booking for in-store credit if you cancel within this timeframe.

Q: Is parking available nearby?

A: There are several pay & display car parks within walking distance of our Little Stonegate location in York.

Q: I’m using public transport—how do I get there?

A: Villains Rum of York is a short walk from York Railway Station and well-served by local bus routes.

Q: Where can I eat or drink before/after the tour?

A: York’s food and drink scene is rich with villainous delights—ask us for recommendations, we love the shambles market though!
