Upgrade your Bake!
With the summer holidays fast approaching everyone wants to be healthy and fit but who says you can’t give yourself a little treat? Afterall as Mary Berry once said on National UK television on The Great British Bake off, ‘cakes are healthy too, you just eat a small slice’.
…Mary however didn’t specify that you couldn’t add booze…
A Splash of Flavour:
One of the easiest ways to upgrade your cakes is lightly soaking it with one of our pudding rums. Often cake soaks only consist of a simple sugar or lemon syrup with a touch of vanilla extract, but they can be so much more!
A cake soak is often applied after the cake has been removed from the oven, cooled and before icing and filling. Not only does this incorporate the incredible flavours of our favourite puddings, but it keeps your cake moist in every slice. Take a spoon or basting brush and lightly drip and spread a thin layer of one of our pudding rums into the sponge.
We recommend following this BBC Good food Caramel Cake recipe and adding our Salted Caramel Rum Liqueur as a soak to make a perfect salted caramel cake to wow any birthday.
BIGGER, Better Buttercream:
We get it, sometimes basic buttercream can be boring so instead we’ve come up with a few ideas to really spice things up and bring them to another level. Whipping our pudding rum into a frosting is also a great way to spruce up your baking skills. Using icing sugar and butter add a couple of teaspoons of any of our pudding rums to add extra sweetness and flavour to any bake.
This BBC Good food rum butter cream recipe is an excellent guide to incorporating not only our range of Pudding Rums but also our full-strength Villains Rum for a bigger boose!
Did you say Maple Pancake Muffins?
- To complement our Maple Pancake Rum Liqueur we recommend using this BBC Good Food Easy Blueberry Muffin recipe which lets the tartness of the blueberries compliment the sweetness of our maple pancake rum. Adding a drop of this rum also ensures that these muffins are little naughty, but not too naughty, as all of our Pudding Rums Liqueur are only 20% APV. The recipe itself is relatively easy and quick for any new bakers or anyone eager to whip up something quick
Excuse me, are those Spicy Chilli Cherry Rum & Raisin Cupcakes?
- Who says cupcakes are just for children? We certainly don’t think so! For creating our Spicy Chilli Cherry Rum and Raisin Cupcakes -now that’s a mouthful!- we recommend using this rum and raisin cupcake recipe. For the rum in the cupcake batter, we recommend switching out the regular spiced rum for our Guy Fawkes Chilli Spiced Rum for that extra kick and sweetness. But to really bump up the recipe, we also recommend adding a couple of teaspoons of our Eric Bloodaxe Black Cherry Spiced Rum into the frosting to compliment the raisins!
We want to hear from you, what combinations or recipes have you incorporated our rums in? Maybe you’re a fan of something a little more daring or you prefer a gentle hug of alcohol in your bakes? Let us know!
